Cookie policy

Every cookie and storage key this site can set, what each one does, and how to refuse or remove them.

This page lists everything this site can store in your browser. It is short, because the site stores very little.

Set by this site

Name Type Purpose Lifetime
exmt_consent Local storage Remembers whether you accepted or declined advertising, so you are not asked again Until you clear site data
wordpress_logged_in_* Cookie Keeps you signed in after you sign in as a member. Never set for visitors who do not sign in 14 days
wordpress_sec_* Cookie Security half of the sign-in session, set together with the cookie above 14 days
wordpress_test_cookie Cookie Set by WordPress to check whether cookies work. Only on the administrator login screen Session

Reading the site and browsing listings sets no cookies at all. Signing in sets only the two session cookies above, and signing out removes them. None of them track you across other websites.

Set by Google, only if you use Google sign-in

The sign-in page offers a Continue with Google button. Its script is loaded from accounts.google.com on that page only. If you use it, Google may set its own cookies, such as g_state, to remember the state of the sign-in prompt. These are governed by Google’s cookie policy. Signing in by email link instead involves no Google cookies.

Set by Google, after consent

The guides section carries Google AdSense. If you accept advertising in the consent banner, Google and its partners may set cookies to serve ads, measure performance and limit how often you see the same advertisement. Their names and lifetimes are controlled by Google and documented in Google’s cookie policy.

If you decline, the advertising script is never requested and none of those cookies are set. Declining does not limit any part of the site.

Not used here

No social media pixels. No advertising retargeting outside AdSense. No session recording or heatmap tools. No cross-site tracking of any description.

Changing your mind

Your advertising choice is stored in your browser’s local storage rather than on a server. Clearing this site’s data in your browser settings removes it, and the banner will ask again on your next visit.

You can also block cookies entirely in your browser settings. The site works normally with cookies blocked, apart from signing in, which needs the session cookies to remember you.

A note for visitors in Europe

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, advertising consent is additionally handled through Google’s certified consent management platform where it is enabled on this property. That interface takes precedence over the simple banner described above.
